Introducing Bandaraya Klasik

A tribute to the original Kuala Lumpur map from 2017. Bandaraya Klasik brings back KL 2.9 with legacy vehicles, iconic landmarks, physics-based public transport, and classic MYSverse design.

Introducing Bandaraya Klasik
We’re bringing back a classic.

For those who’ve been part of MYSverse for a while, you probably remember the older version of Bandaraya when it was still called Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Most of you knew it as KL 2.9999999... not quite version 3, but close enough to feel complete. It’s been offline for some time, but the love for it never really went away.

So this June 2025, we’re happy to launch Bandaraya Klasik, a re-release of that original map. We’re not treating this as a major update or a fully supported title. It’s more of a way to keep something special alive and let the community enjoy it again.

What makes it special

Bandaraya Klasik keeps everything that made the original version stand out. Some parts are outdated, but that’s part of the charm.

Landmarks in Bandaraya Klasik
  • You’ll still find familiar landmarks like KL Tower, Istana Negara, and Plaza Rakyat.

  • The Monorail and LRT systems are still there too, running on a physics-based setup that was ahead of its time.
    • These systems aren’t in the current Bandaraya, mostly because they’re resource-heavy and hard to maintain with today’s priorities.
    • We really do want to stress this - expect them to be as buggy as they were on initial release. That means you shouldn't expect them to work... and if they do, it's a pleasant surprise.

  • All the old UI designs, vehicle models, and scripts are still intact. Some things might feel clunky, but they’re exactly how players remember them.

  • The city environment has that same early MYSverse look and feel. It’s a snapshot of where we started.

This map was first launched in 2017 under the name [MYS] Malaysia, back when MYSverse was still operating as a ro-nation group. The very first version, a short-lived v1, was only played by maybe twenty people in total. But things took off with v2, the first real form of 2.9, which brought in features like purchasable cars, criminal dealers, and a much more open-ended experience. It offered players a broader range of gameplay choices, a first for us at the time.

One detail that long-time fans will remember: the most popular way to get around used to be a tool-based motorcycle you would equip and ride. It was simple, but it got the job done.

The building style across the map is another thing worth mentioning. It probably wouldn’t pass as ideal or visually polished by today’s standards, but that mix of styles and structure gives a real window into who we were as developers back then, and how we worked with what we had.

What’s different

We’ve made a few small changes to make sure the game still works with the current version of Roblox.

  • Old chat and topbar systems have been replaced so the game runs properly.
  • A few performance improvements were added to keep things smoother on newer devices.

The biggest change is how teams work:

  • All teams are now open and free to play.
  • You won’t need to apply, train, or go through any off-platform steps to access them.
    • Back in the day, most teams were tied to official MYSverse Sim agencies, just like they are in the current Bandaraya.
    • But for Klasik, we want to try something new. Everyone can just jump in and explore freely.

Why bring it back?

Delightful December update teaser, the last update to KL 2.9 in November 2019

To be honest, we weren’t planning to. Our focus is still on improving and maintaining our main games like Bandaraya and Lebuhraya, and building new experiences for the future. We don’t have the time or people to actively support a legacy map with older assets.

But we kept hearing the same thing from the community: "Where’s the old map?" or "I miss the LRT and Monorail." That told us it still matters.

So we decided to bring it back in its original form, with just enough updates to keep it working. It’s not perfect, and it’s not modern, but it means something. It reminds us of where we started and how far we’ve come.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is the car system new or old?
    • It uses the original car models from that era. This was before we began designing our own in-house vehicles with a consistent look and performance.
    • Some of the vehicles may be more detailed but less optimised, as they were sourced from different places, including toolbox assets or imported from 3D model websites. Expect variety, and maybe a few surprises.
  • Will this game get new content or updates?
    • No. Bandaraya Klasik is not actively supported. We’re focusing our time and effort on improving our main games and creating new ones. This release is more of a tribute than a relaunch.
  • Do I need to apply or join a group to play as a team?
    • Not at all. All teams are free to join and do not require any off-platform applications or training. You can just play.
  • Can I report bugs or give feedback?
    • You can, but keep in mind that we are not planning to fix most bugs unless they completely break the experience. This is a legacy map kept online mostly for fun and nostalgia.

A quick note

Bandaraya Klasik isn’t a new beginning. It’s a tribute.

We won’t be adding content or fixing every bug, but we’ll keep it online so you can visit, play, and enjoy it again, just like old times.

Thanks for sticking with us, whether you’re new or have been here since the KL 2.9 days. We’re glad to share this piece of MYSverse history with you again.

See you in Klasik!
